Subdued expectations in 2008 for the European timber trade |

| 2007 was a good year for the 13 member countries of the European Timber Trade Association - FEBO. Countries such as Finland and Belgium were able to book double-figure growth rates. The building sector of lots of the countries remained stable thus contributing to satisfactory turnover development for the timber traders. Gedämpfte Erwartungen für 2008 im europäischen Holzhandel |

| 2007 war für die 13 Mitgliedsländer des Europäischen Holzhandelsverbandes – FEBO ein gutes Jahr. In Ländern wie Finnland und Belgien waren die Wachstumszahlen sogar zweistellig. Die Baukonjunktur lief in vielen Ländern auf einem stabilen Niveau und trug zu einer zufriedenstellenden Umsatzentwicklung im Holzhandel bei. Dazu hat auch die lebhafte Nachfrage nach Produkten für den Ausbau und für den Renovierungsbereich seinen Teil beigetragen. mehr... |

| La FEBO a tenu son premier congrès international à Bâle le 1er septembre 2006 ayant pour thème "Le bois et l'environnement". Ceci n'est pas une coïncidence dans la mesure où les aspects écologiques sont chaque jour plus importants pour le secteur. L'opinion publique y est fortement sensible, des ONG se sont engagées et la Commission européenne a élaboré un plan d'action pour l'Application des Réglementations Forestières, Gouvernance et Echanges Commerciaux, mieux connu sous le sigle FLEGT. mehr... |

| FEBO held its first International Congress in Basel with as subject “timber and environment”. This is not a coincidence as ecological aspects are every day more important for the sector. La FEBO soutient le label FSC pour le bois contrôlé |

| En plus du label 100% FSC (les produits portant le label 100% FSC sont issus de forêts certifiées qui répondent aux standards environnementaux et sociaux du FSC ), un autre label a été créé : le « FSC – mixed sources », soit sources diverses. Les produits portant le label « mixed sources » soutiennent le développement d’une gestion forestière responsable au niveau mondial. Le bois provient en partie de forêts bien gérées certifiées FSC et en partie de sources non certifiées FSC mais contrôlées en vue d’exclure le bois issu de coupes illégales et de forêts menacées à haute valeur de conservation, les organismes génétiquement manipulés ainsi que la violation des droits civils et traditionnels des populations. Le Président de la FEBO, Jörg Reimer, fait remarquer que le label FSC est un très bon outil pour combattre le commerce de bois provenant de coupes illégales. mehr... |

FEBO steunt het FSC-label voor gecontroleerd hout |

| Naast het 100% FSC-label (producten met een 100% FSC-label zijn afkomstig uit gecertificeerde bossen die aan de ecologische en sociale criteria van FSC beantwoorden), werd een ander label uitgebracht: FSC mixed sources, hetzij verschillende bronnen. Producten die het FSC mixed sources label dragen steunen de ontwikkeling van een verantwoord bosbeheer op wereldvlak. Dit hout is voor deel afkomstig uit goed beheerde FSC-gecertificeerde bossen en voor een deel uit niet FSC gecertificeerde bronnen die echter wel worden gecontroleerd met het doel geen gebruik te maken van hout afkomstig is van illegale kap of van bedreigde bossen met een hoge beschermingswaarde en geen genetische gemanipuleerde organismen en de burgerlijke en traditionele rechten van de bevolking niet te schenden. FEBO Voorzitter Jörg Reimer benadrukt dat het FSC label een zeer goed middel is om de handel in illegaal gekapt hout te bestrijden. mehr... |

FEBO supports the FSC label for “controlled wood” and draws attention to formaldehyd emmisions |

| Besides the label 100 % FSC (Products with a 100 % FSC label come from forests certified as meeting the environmental and social standards of FSC), another label has been created: FSC - mixed sources. Products with a mixed sources label support the development of responsible forest management worldwide. The wood partially comes from FSC certified well managed forests and partially from non FSC-certified but controlled sources. Company controlled sources are controlled, in accordance with FSC standards, to exclude illegally harvested timber, forests where high conservation values are threatened, genetically modified organisms and violation of people's civil and traditional rights.
