Stora Enso Timber started up with new construction products in Imavere

22.06.05

Stora Enso Timber has completed the EUR 12 million investment in a glue-laminated beam mill in Imavere, Estonia. The mill has received a certificate of Japanese Agricultural Standard and is now able to export glue-laminated beams to Japanese construction market.

The Imavere beam mill in Central Estonia includes planing and stress-grading facilities for refining the lamella raw material which is then glue-laminated into beams. The first trial production was started in March; at the moment the mill is working in 2 shifts. The full capacity of 80 000 m3 will be reached in 2006.

The beam mill is part of the investment program which was announced in August 2002 as part of the acquisition of Sylvester. It supports Stora Enso Timber's strategy to become a full assortment supplier for the traditional Japanese post and beam house market.

The new beam mill will strengthen the long-term competitiveness at Imavere. After this investment, the Imavere site consists of a large-scale sawmill,
a component mill and a beam mill. Total annual log consumption will be around 780 000 m3. The investment increases the number of personnel by 75 to a total of 308.
