Roadmap 2010 process awarded with the Schweighofer Prize 2007

25.06.07

The Roadmap 2010 process, the first-ever joint strategic project of the European woodworking industries, has been awarded with the Schweighofer Prize 2007 in the category “education and co-operation”.

The prize was awarded by the Prize founder, Mr Gerald Schweighofer, and jury member Dr Jozef Rettenmeier during the award ceremony at the Vienna City Hall on 18 June 2007, in the presence of Austrian chancellor Dr Alfred Gusenbauer. In his laudatio, Dr Rettenmeier stressed the importance of the Roadmap 2010 process for the future positive development of the European wood sector. Though the project has not been completed fully yet, the jury was convinced that the activities performed had already strongly increased the co-operation between the various operators and led to an innovative approach to tackling the future.

On behalf of all actors within the various Roadmap 2010 processes (Building with Wood, Living with Wood, Wood in Packaging and Transport and Wood in Sustainable Development), the prize was received by CEI-Bois chairman Mikael Eliasson and Secretary General Filip De Jaeger.

Mr Eliasson thanked the CEI-Bois member federations that so far have been taking a leading role in one or more processes and the various experts that have been and are spending quite some of their valuable time and energy in making the process a major achievement. He also paid tribute to the originator of the action, Mr Bo Borgström.

The Board of CEI-Bois, which met prior to the award ceremony, expressed its strong gratitude to the Schweighofer family not only for the attribution of the prize to the Roadmap process, but also for having installed the Schweighofer Prize in first instance as a strong driver to innovation in the sector.

Dr Erich Wiesner, Chairman of the “Building with Wood” process, stressed that the Prize is a recognition for the work of numerous volunteers at company, federation, national and European level, who cannot be thanked enough for their daily support.
